Notifications not logged

I have log_notifications=1 in nagios.cfg but notifications are *not*
logged in log files (but I receive emails when they are triggered)

Also if I click on "View notifications for all hosts" I see 

File: /var/log/nagios/nagios.log

No notifications have been recorded in the current log file

Any idea ?

I have nagios 1.0b5-25 debian version compiled with the text-only
backend.
