Not really. The message is from the gui, which tries to read the file 
/var/log/nagios/status.log but can't find it (or access it). Any other 
error message is bound to be less accurate.

Read the script. If I were to have written it (I've rolled my own, the 
original one wasn't working so good), I would have exported it to $TMP 
and $TMPDIR before starting nagios to make sure it falls back to the 
same path (a bit stupid really, but it prevents sym/hard link clobbering).
