Thanks for the reply Randie. It's pointing me in the right direction to
justify a purchase to my VP.
As far as the database problem we are running Nagios 1.2 with MySQL 4.0.15.
I don't know if it is a problem with the database or with Nagios. The
annoying thing is that I can see where my boss assigned service groups to
certain hosts but when I edit those entries it still has nothing listed for
service groups. If I end up not being able to add a service group through
the web interface, does anyone know to which CFG file I would add it? I
crawled through the host.cfg and service.cfg and didn't find anything in
there (I admit that I may have overlooked it).

Rob,
I don't know if this helps but I'm using nagios to monitor about 1300 sites
and about 2000 services. The box I'm using is a compaq PIII 800 Mhz SCSI.
The machine is also gather MRTG stats every 5 minutes. I haven't had any
problems with the system keeping up with monitoring all the sites. I think
alot of what you will need depends on how often you are monitoring all your
services(ie every 5 minutes, or every hour). I have services that are
monitored every 15 to 60 minutes. I think the best thing to get would be
something with alot of speed and fast hard drive access, that way all the
services checks would be done as quickly as possible.
I'm not to sure about your database problem. What type of database are you
using, and what version of nagios are you running?
Sorry I couldn't be of any more help.
