Well, there's the Nagios documentation which is available in both
HTML and PDF. It provides a basic overview of how NSCA works and how
it ties into Nagios.

The configuration files for NSCA also contain loads of comments,
detailing the use of each parameter.

Here's the general idea though.
You can setup NSCA on your Nagios server to receive status updates
for passive checks. These results are sent in using the send_nsca
binary. Both processes have their own config files, respectively
nsca.cfg and send_nsca.cfg (who'd'a thunk?)...

NSCA is commonly used in two situations.
1) A distributed Nagios environment, where multiple servers perform
bunches of checks. Each sends its results to a central Nagios server
that gathers all the information for display in the GUI and such.
2) Your clients may use send_nsca to send in the results for locally
run checks. This mechanism takes the load of your Nagios servers,
which can forego the use of active checks. Local checks can be
scheduled using either a local Nagios installation, or a wrapper
script run through cron (which is the solution I chose to implement).

Good luck!
