Charting trends

Hi List;
In my last gig (a postgres shop) we used MRTG to run a number of queries that
every 5 minutes tracked things like overall db size, table sizes, number of
sequential scans vs. number of index scans, etc. With MRTG we were able to
create a set of daily, monthly and YTD graphs that showed at a glance the
growth or trends of these items.
2 questions:
1) I'm a total newbie when it comes to nagios, can I do the same thing with
nagios and the postgres plugin ?
2) if I manage to run a set of queries outside of nagios can I use nagios to
simply graph the data ?
Thanks in advance...
