problem start nagios

hi to all, i have nagios 2.8 installed on an redhat es 4.
the problem is:
some check work fine, only if i start nagios after login my server and i
type /etc/init.d/nagios start/stop/restart.
instead if i type che command service nagios start/stop/restart
these check don't go... a the same time if nagios start at the boot when i
reboot my server.
some body can help me???
